Our welcome return to training after the latest lockdown was tempered by news of the loss of our much-loved coach and friend Pat Russell.
Pat joined East Kilbride Athletic Club in the early 1980s an endurance athlete before becoming one of our coaching stalwarts. He had time for every athlete and every fellow coach. He conveyed knowledge, brought to bear a wealth of experience, created structure and encouraged rigour. Above all, he inspired and made training fun.
Sprints coach Gordon Bury reflected the sentiments of all at the club, past and present, saying, ‘It was a privilege to have worked alongside him.’
Pat will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered.
