About EKAC

Whether running, jumping or throwing, East Kilbride Athletic Club – EKAC – is for you.

We are based in the Athletics Hub at the John Wright Sports Centre, minutes from East Kilbride town centre. The Hub overlooks the Centre’s recently-resurfaced 400m running track.

A charity, our aim is to bring out the best in our athletes, whether juniors (9+), seniors or masters and whether they are striving for a national vest, starting out or aiming to set new personal bests as part of their athletics journey.

While running is the most visible part of what we do – you may have seen our yellow-and-black vests zipping by you – we are also heavily involved in field events including high jump, long jump, discus, javelin and shot put.

On the running side, we cover sprinting (including sprint hurdles), middle distance, road, trail and cross country. Some events are individual, others involve teams.

We cater for ages 9 upwards and have internationalists, national and district champions amongst our many members, with strength in depth in our female and male junior, senior and master categories.

How the club is run

EKAC has served Scotland’s 6th-largest settlement since 1959.

We are a SCIO – a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation – regulated by OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator). We are governed by a board of trustees who operate under our constitution. Most of our normal business is managed by a committee that meets each month.

We are affiliated to Scottish Athletics (SA). All of our club members are, separately, also members of Scottish Athletics. An SA membership number is required in order to enter almost all of the athletics events in which the club participates.

All of our coaches are part of the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) scheme and we have an appointed Child Protection Officer.
